Trial Vacation

So we decided we needed to see how Kaleb would act in the sand before we spent money booking a vacation package, so one night we took him to the local sand volleyball courts and let him test the waters- i mean sand...at first he seemed a bit perplexed by the whole thing, then he thought it was fun and started to play with it. We got some good pictures and video and we're very confident about our trip plans...then, then...it happened, as expected, he put a huge handfull in his mouth and began crying and spitting it out...hopefully that will only happen a few times b/c we are still planning to go to the beach for vacation. We at first were attempting to go to Mexico and even got Kaleb a passport, but d/t the price of gas, the airline tickets became ridiculous so we just decided on Charleston, S.C. instead. We'll let you know how it goes...

4th of July fun

So the night started off with a boom...and Kaleb continued to sleep...
Then he decided to wake up and see some fireworks...he stayed interested for about 5 min...

Then, him and Abby started making sparks of their own!!! He likes older women!!
So, I know I am way behind in updating this blog so I will try to catch up...I guess one big reason is because I've been chasing Kaleb around the house. He started crawling at about 7 1/2 months and has not slowed down since.

Visit with cousin Nylah

Picture 1: how do i look in pink?? Kaleb and Nylah switched hats for some fun pics
Picture 2: In the cool turtle pool

So Jason and I and Kaleb headed for Knoxville last weekend. The plan was to spend friday night w/ Jason's sister and then leave Kman with his cousin and head for the Biltmore for our first night away from Kaleb...well, we didnt get very far b/c i got a virus and was feeling quite miserable...so instead we spent the weekend watching Kaleb and Nylah play, which wasnt too bad after all. We just didnt get to have our adult weekend as planned...oh well, that seems to be the norm in parenthood...nothing ever goes as plans and you just have to roll with it...

However, today we took Kaleb out on the boat for the second time and it did go much better. The life jacket seemed to fit him much better and he like to watch some of the kids that were playing nearby. In the pool he's pretty recklace. He was diving into the water to chase after the floating toys...pretty funny...at least he's not scared of the water.

And he's off...

Well, last weekend Kaleb moved from his stomach to a sitting position while Jason's parents were in town. We were so excited. After that he started doing it all the time. If he starts crying in the middle of the night, we'll go in his room and he is sitting up. I think it's his new favorite position. He looks like an owl, sitting up half asleep.

So this weekend he started taking 2-3 crawl steps at a time and we figured it wouldn't be long. He has been army crawling for a couple weeks now and getting up on his knees and rocking, but then falling flat on his face b/c he didnt realize he needed to move his arms too. But tonight, he crawled across the room using his arms and legs. We spent the whole rest of the night putting things of interest across the room so he would go get them. I never though that this could be so entertaining!

"BOATINGS NOT FOR ME"

Finally! the weather is warm, the day is right...we head out for the open sea (lake)...we thought little man would be a water lover just like us...but much to our dismay he was miserable the entire time... his huge lifejacket which he is required to be in at all times on the boat until he is 13 years old was pushing up his little cheeks and he couldnt even move his head! He did love the bouncing up and down when we drove fast, but it was more stressful then relaxing to be out on the lake this weekend...so, i guess little man will have to hang out with the babysitter until he fits better into his life jacket...

Mother's Day

We had a great first mother's day...Kaleb gave me a heart locket w/ a pearl chain with his picture in it...pretty smart 6 month old, huh! we also went out to lunch at Noshvilles restaurant and then went to the Frist museum to see the Monet to Dali exhibit with Andrew and Ulla who were in town for the weekend...Kaleb did good and enjoyed the impressionist error, but got a little hypnotised w/ the pointillism paintings and took a good nap. Jason then made steak for dinner on the grill...so, i must again say...it was a good day!

Peas Please...

We started feeding Kaleb at around 5 1/2 months...he took to it right away...so far he's had peas, green beens and carrots and cereal...his favorite seems to be the peas though...sometimes he takes the spoon and feeds himself...he's becoming a little man...he also likes to talk while he's eating...the whole way thru the meal...we keep telling him that it's rude, but he doesn't seem to care! even though he's eating well he has seemed to have shrunk...he is now in the 10th %tile for weight where he was in the 80th %tile at birth...oh well, that seems to be more in line w/ jas and me...
